What Rhymes With Month?

Dear Blog,

Well, would you look how time flies. It's been a whole month since last I posted. A lot has happened since then--much too much to go into in a single blog entry. Why, there's almost enough blog fodder for thirty entries. Alas, there is only so much room on the Internet, and so little time.

I have a new job, which is far superior to my old job, Student.

Huh, I guess that's about all that's happened. Plans for the future:

1. Finish writing that novel.
2. Give hair to Locks of Love.
3. Install keypad device at apartment entry.
4. Take more photographs.
5. Make more movies.
6. Start smoking then quit.
7. See a birth.
8. See a death.
9. Rescue a dog.
10. Fly.
11. Learn about electricity.
12. Build something impressive.
13. Demolish it.
14. Explore.
15. Meet new people.

We'll see how that all goes in the next installment.

The Brunch Club

Dear Blog,

Went to a delicious graduation brunch this morning with friends. Afterwards, we spent a couple hours just talking about stuff we like. It was like it was the '50s, all us kids getting together and just chatting. Then we went down to the soda fountain before the school dance later that night.

I had a full day planned of beach-going and bowling and movies, and none of them happened. Washed my car though. She looks pretty nice now. Took her to the self-wash where there's a high power water gun. I pretended the baked-on bird doodies were enemy fighters and a blasted them to smithereens.

Then I started season 2 of The West Wing. It was unbelievable. I forgot how much I like it. I hadn't been with those characters since I finished season 1 sometime last year. It was like a big old reunion, except without the name tags or the cover band.

Ran cable under the apartment for the phone out back and came up short. Once I get another 100 feet of cable, it's gonna be so awesome! The only thing is it was so dirty under there. My white shirt turned brown and gray and when I blew my nose later, the boogers came out black.

Watched the third episode of season 2. God bless America.

One Day Further

Dear Blog,

Yesterday were the 125th commencement ceremonies. They were a bit more entertaining than things that start at 8:30 in the morning ought to be. We all wore costumes with funny hats. The band was there. There were heraldic flags. The provost wore a cape. White doves. A right crapload of pomp and circumstance.

It would have been disheartening that, when it came time to sing the alma mater, no one knew the lyrics or how the song goes, except it was much more enjoyable that way because we all sang anyway.

The dude read my name out. I marched across stage. Handshake, smile, photo. Handshake, smile, photo. Stand here, look at me, hold that up, smile, photo. Stand here, look at me, put that down, smile, photo. End of march. (Middle of May.)

Then, to a horrendous loop of "Pomp and Circumstance" Op. 39: March, No. 1 in D, we recessed, and that was it; it was over. That was the end. Well, it was really the beginning, they say, but it was the end too. Nobody seems to admit that, but it is, and it's just as much cause to celebrate.

And celebrate we did. Start with a mimosa (or "asskicker," as I call it, because it sounds less dainty that way) and work your way to tomorrow. Dinner here. Party there. Dinner here. Went to Seven Grand in downtown. It was pretty neat. I developed an adjective to describe it: lowded. Or croud.

Educational Degree No. 33

Dear Blog,

I just found a check I haven't cashed. It's like finding a frozen dinner when you're starving late at night. Except the microwave is downtown and closed on Sundays.

Today I tied up four years of loose ends. My once unwieldy mass of a key chain is as bare as it was when first I arrived at the university. My brain, slightly less bare. So, that's it: I spent most of the day returning keys.

Oh, but I also had a delicious cupcake. Man. It was so good.

Later, I went to the honorary degrees dinner. Talk about high-tone and fancy to-do. Sheesh. I mean table cloths and gold-rimmed plates. And crystal! Oh, boy. The kind you can play music on. I was so tempted, but there were adults everywhere (and you know how they are).

Slacked off today.

I missed the senior breakfast because of a stomach ache. Then I finished Farewell, Casey, a Paralaks Productions short film. When that finished burning, it was time to pick up my suits from Jessie, the tailor, who is a man whose name is also Jesse, but with an "i."

At campus, there were cars everywhere. Apparently it was move-out day. Boy, am I glad I don't have to move. I was there to give Casey a copy of the film, but when I got to her office, they had changed the name on the door. I headed to the Drama Center to see if I could find someone who could tell me where to find her, and I came upon a ceramics sale. I bought a nice ceramic head called Shock from Sue, and Ashley reminded me Casey's office moved to a different building. It was hot out. Luckily, Casey showed up at the air-conditioned ceramics sale, so I didn't have to make a trek to her office.

Instead I trekked past her office, across campus to KSCR to put back together the Mackie mixing desk. That took quite a long time, but it still works, so that's a plus.

Got home. Watched some hulu. Went to Radio Shack to get 200 feet of telephone cord for the phone out back. The cost of this PBX is rising rather high. Worth it. I think I'm gonna run it from the EER out the window, up the wall and around to the other side of the breezeway, down the wall again, under the building to the back alley and straight on to the No Parking Zone. The two problems I've encountered with this are: 1. I will need a ladder. 2. There were a couple cockroaches under the building when I scoped it out, and if I had my druthers, 'druther not climb through a cockroach posse.

Dear Blog,

Today I finished my last final ever. At last, after 20 years, I am leaving school. At last, I can start to learn.

Also, I purchased two new suits from a quaint little haberdashery in the fashion district. They're a real smart polyester/nylon blend, and I paid a pretty penny for them. I was going to wear them--well, one of them--to party tonight, but I was afraid I might throw up on it, and I need them clean for the upcoming commencement activities.

The PBX is coming along nicely. I need to get a Linux box for it (looking at Gentoo) because Asterisk doesn't work so hot on my Mac. Concurrently I am working on transforming the entrance to my room into an elevator carriage.

Today I started a blog.
